Surface Preparation

PLACING OVER PANELING, PLYWOOD, SHEETROCK, AND
OTHER RELATED RIGID SHEATHING*
Completely
cover the wall using a weather resistive barrier, such as a Knit paper. The
Kraft paper should be placed horizontally and lapped single roof style at
using 4" joints. If vertical joints should occur, joints should
be lapped not less than 6". Then in accordance with local
building codes, a galvanized diamond mesh expanded metal lath shall be
applied. The metal lath sides should overlap not less than 3/8" and end by
1". On all inside and outside corners double wrap lath a minimum of 16".
Hang metal lath by using galvanized nails or staples 6" on center vertically
and 16" on center horizontally, penetrating studs by a minimum of 1". Then
apply a 1/2" thick scratch coat of mortar and allow drying. |

* The use of OSB as a backing
material for our stone may cause cracking. |
PLACING OVER OPEN STUDS
Using a paperbacked galvanized metal lath, lap and install using galvanized
nails or staples,
penetrating studs a minimum of I". In use of metal studs use a non-corrosive
self tapping screw.
The screws should have a 3/8" head and penetrates a minimum 3/8" beyond
inside metal surface. Then apply 1/2" scratch coat of mortar and let
dry. |
Placing over clean unsealed,
untreated, unpainted, block, brick, and other concrete or masonry surfaces
No surface preparation needed. Make sure newly
poured concrete is free of release agents, if it does contain form oil, etch
surface with Muratic acid, rinse thoroughly. |
PLACED OVER PAINTED, OR SEALED CONCRETE OR MASONRY SURFACES
The surface must be prepared by sandblasting, acid etching, water blasting,
or scrubbing with a
wire brush. Or galvanized metal lath must be attached using non-corrosive
nails and a scratch
coat of mortar applied over the metal lath. |
PLACING OVER RIGID INSULATION BOARD
The preparation is the same as it is in placing it over paneling, plywood,
sheetrock, and other
related rigid sheathing |
PLACING OVER METAL PANELS
The preparation is the same as placing over paneling, plywood, sheetrock,
and other related rigid
sheathing with the exception of attaching the metal lath with a self taping
3/8" screw. The screws
shall penetrate a minimum of 3/8" inside metal surface.
